SSCIP 2026 – Call for Papers Now Open – Deadline 15th February

The 18th Annual SSCIP Conference will be held at the University of Oulu, in Linnanmaa, Finland from Wednesday, June 10th to Friday, June 12th, 2026. The theme for the conference will be Children, Emotions, and Relations.

The organizers invite participants to explore the intersection of childhood, emotions, attachments, and social relationships to uncover how children in past societies experienced and influenced their worlds. Childhood in both ancient and recent past was shaped by complex emotional landscapes and relational dynamics, leaving traces in the archaeological and historical record, such as toys, burial sites, household artefacts, and various historical sources. We encourage presentations or posters to consider how care and attachments, or the lack thereof, played a role in the well-being of children. We also warmly welcome contributions that are not directly tied to the study of emotional and other relationships.

The conference will feature keynote speaker Kaisa Vehkalahti from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.

At this time, you’re invited to submit an abstract for a podium or poster presentation (maximum of 200 words) to organizer Dr. Sanna Lipkin (sanna.lipkin@oulu.fi) by February 15, 2026.

Registration will open shortly, and all relevant information will be posted to the conference website: https://www.oulu.fi/en/events/children-emotions-and-relations.
