From June 25 to 27 2025, the 17th annual meeting for the Society for the Study of Childhood in the Past took place in Aarhus, Denmark. The meeting took place at Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), and was hosted by SSCIP-member Mathilde Vestergaard Meyer together with Professor Felix Riede, Associate Professor Helle Strandgaard Jensen, and Izzy Wisher, all from Aarhus University. The meeting was financial supported by Aarhus University Research Foundation and the School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University.
In total we had 31 participants, from nine different countries, including the organizing committee and the two keynote speakers, Associate Professor Sheina Lew-Levy and Assistant Professor Kristine Alexander. The focus of the conference were children and climate change, although the talks presented at the conference also covered other aspects of children and childhood. There were 16 papers delivered across six sessions (Toys and Art, Climate and Children, Agency, Death, Life, and Health), by researchers at all career stages, and some fantastic hands-on workshops led by Videnskabsklubben (the Science Club), Julia Beaumont and Corinne Feuillatre.
The Student Award this year was given to Javier Salcines-MontaƱa for his insightful and touching presentation about emotions and attitudes towards infant death.
Thank you to all attendees and those involved in the organisation! The program and abstract book are still available on the conference website: https://conferences.au.dk/sscip-2025.
